Dr Elli Tutungi is a senior anaesthetist with a subspecialty practice in cardiac and thoracic anaesthesia.
Elli is a graduate of Monash University Medical School and completed his post graduate speciality training in anaesthesia in Melbourne. He undertook a fellowship in cardiac and thoracic anaesthesia in 1999 in London, Ontario Canada at The University of Western Ontario. Elli commenced as a staff consultant at Monash Medical Centre in 2000. He was appointed the coordinator of the cardiac anaesthetic program and the deputy director of the anaesthetic department in 2002. He played an active role in education and teaching of trainees and specialists. He was responsible for overseeing the transition of the cardiac anaesthetic department into full credentialing for Intraoperative Transoesphageal Echocardiography for all cardiac anaesthetists. |

After becoming Director of Anaesthesia in 2006, Elli decided his love and passion was for clinical anaesthesia and in 2007 he focused on cardio-thoracic anaesthesia and transoesphageal echocardiography while stepping back from administrative duties.
Since then, Elli has been one of the few full time exclusively cardio-thoracic anaesthetists in the private sector in Australia. He has been the pioneer of anaesthesia for robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery in Australia, having trained many specialists locally and from interstate.
